Rocketman teams up with Daily Bread to support hunger relief

Transit app Rocketman is making it easier to support or get help from the Daily Bread Food Bank amid a marked increase in food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past few weeks, Daily Bread's onsite food bank has seen a 53 per cent increase in use. Most-needed items include high protein foods such as peanut butter, canned beans, canned tuna/meats, pasta sauce and shelf-stable milk products.

As a part of the Toronto community, Rocketman knew their community would be part of the solution. Working with Daily Bread, the team quickly integrated Daily Bread locations into the "Stops Map" tab in Rocketman to help users locate their nearest food donation bin. The app also provides an option to make a monetary donation.

“There are fewer commuters but no shortage of inspiring stories of people donating what they would have spent on transit towards vulnerable communities. We wanted to make it easy for our commuter community to help, or get help, with food,” said Luc Hartwick, business lead at Rocketman. “Huge shoutout to everyone on the Rocketman and Daily Bread teams who helped put this together and a big thank you to everyone that have made generous contributions.”

Launched on April 9 ahead of the Easter long weekend, the community response has been positive, with nearly $1,500 in contributions through the first few days of the campaign.
